Are you drinking enough water? It's a question that many of us neglect to ask ourselves, but the truth is that it can have a huge impact on our mental health. Dehydration has been linked to anxiety and depression, so if you are feeling down lately, maybe it's time for you to drink up! In this blog post, we'll talk about how important hydration really is. Read on to learn more about the benefits of drinking plenty of water and why dehydration can be so detrimental.

What are the benefits to drinking water you ask and what does that have to do with anxiety or depression you may wonder. It is true that dehydration has been linked to an increase in anxiety and depression, along with other mental health concerns. When the body becomes dehydrated it can cause many problems including mood swings, fatigue, headaches, lightheadedness and confusion. All of these symptoms can lead to a feeling of being out of control or overwhelmed leading to increased levels of anxiety.

Dehydration can cause a decrease in serotonin levels which is the “feel good hormone”. This means that if you are dehydrated not only will your mood be affected but so too will your energy and ability to feel happy, calm or content.

In addition to drinking water throughout the day, there are many other ways you can increase your water intake. Here are some ideas to get you started:

-Drink more tea . Tea is a great way to hydrate and it also contains antioxidants which are beneficial for your health.

-Add water to your meals. Soups, stews and smoothies are all excellent ways to get more water into your diet.

-Drink fruit juice or eat fruit. Many fruits and juices are high in water content and will help you to stay hydrated.

What does all of this mean for your mental health? Simply put, drinking water is crucial for maintaining your mental well-being. Make sure you drink enough, and that you stay hydrated.

It is not the cure and the end to all mental ailments, but it is for sure beneficial and an important key to maintaining your mental health.
